Too often public transit is overlooked as a means of getting to and from summer activities. This past weekend I partnered with BC Transit as part of their new campaign to seek adventure across the province. My friend Alex and I made our way to Revelstoke to take advantage of all the amazing adventure opportunities that are accessible via transit.
First stop upon arriving in Revelstoke was to rent some bicycles then head to the bus stop which is conveniently located directly across the street in Grizzly Plaza. After latching our bikes to the front of the bus we took a ride around town just to get a feel for the area before heading to our intended destination. We disembarked at a lovely park alongside the Illecillewaet River and spent our time peddling throughout the trail network, taking in the forest and meadow views. Afterwards we took the bus back to town for our next adventure; white water rafting.
All geared up we clambered into the rafts and began our journey down the river. The next three hours were spent paddling and getting soaking wet with chilly glacial water as we navigated our way through the rapids. What a thrilling way the spend the afternoon. After resting up at our hotel we headed out for an evening bike ride around town and out along the Columbia River to take in sunset before retiring for the evening.
Come morning, after a restful and relaxing evening, we wandered around town for a time before loading our bikes back onto the bus. This time we rode to the edge of town. From our stop it was a short 15 minute ride up to the base of Revelstoke Mountain. There was a wait time for the Mountain Coaster so we grabbed our queue number and headed to the nearby restaurant to grab a bite to eat and relax in the sunshine on the patio. The gondola took us up the mountain where we wandered around taking in the stunning mountain vista and looked back upon the town of Revelstoke. We really couldn’t have asked for nicer weather! Once it was time to go, we made our way over to the coaster for an exhilarating descent! Whipping in and around trees as you zoom down the mountain is probably my new favourite way to get down the hill.
We gathered our bikes and head back in time to catch the last bus back to town! All in all it was a really fun and exciting weekend. It was really easy for us to explore Revelstoke and partake in various activities while utilizing BC Transit. If you get out and ride and seek this summer with BC Transit be sure to share your experience on social media using the tag #explorebcbybus and you are entered to win monthly bus passes as well as an epic summer adventure!!
